Mother Teresa arrived in India to help some of the country’s poorest.
Mother Teresa symbolizes charity, humility and empathy – a woman who reached out to the poorest of the poor. Born in Macedonia, Mother Teresa first arrived in India in 1929 as a missionary. In 1950 she established the Missionaries of Charity in Calcutta and for more than 45 years, she dedicated her life to help the needy and the sick.
