Arkansas’ Governor used the National Guard to prevent nine Black students from entering school.
The students, who came to be known as the Little Rock Nine, were attempting to enter a previously all-white school when the governor mobilized Arkansas’ troops. Upon hearing of this, President Eisenhower mobilized the US Air Force to take control of the troops and protect any Black students in Arkansas.
