Baseballer Nolan Ryan became the first pitcher to strike out 5,000 batters.
Nolan, who played for the Texas Rangers at the time, was pitching against Oakland Athletics’ Rickey Henderson when he broke the record. He was later inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1999.
