NASA’s Challenger Space Shuttle launched for its final successful mission, STS-61-A.
STS-61-A was the ninth mission the Challenger completed, which broke the record for the largest number of people carried aboard a spacecraft during the whole flight. The mission carried a laboratory developed and built by the European Space Agency to conduct tests in space.
