The Ford Motor Company announced that it would begin an eight-hour workday as well as provide a living wage for workers who would receive $5 a day.

On this day in 1914 the Ford Motor Company announced an eight hour workday and a minimum wage of $5 for a day’s labor. This doubled the wages and cut the work day from nine hours to eight. Henry Ford’s primary objective was to reduce worker attrition. Henry Ford changed manufacturing forever.
