Singer Buddy Holly’s last song was released.

On Jan. 5, 1959, Holly released the single, the Paul Anka penned “It Doesn’t Matter Anymore,” which would be his final single, as he died a few weeks later, along with Richie Valens and “The Big Bopper” J. P. Richardson, in a tragic plane crash following the show at the Surf Ballroom in Clear Lake, Iowa.
